Understanding Business and Industry

Career Counselors are part of the Business Advisory Council at MCESC.  As part of the BAC, Career Counselors are a liaison between the BAC, business and industry, educators and students.  To get a better understanding of business and industry in the Mahoning Valley, Career Counselors have started touring local business facilities.  On November 12,2018,  they toured Youngstown Electrical Area Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee with Training Director, Mr. Ed. Emrick. The facility is located on Western Reserve Rd. in Boardman, and offers apprenticeships in the electrical trades.  Apprenticeships take place in a classroom and on construction sites along journeymen electricians.  Students earn 40 hour a week paychecks from the start.

Career Counselors also visited Summer Garden Food Manufacturing on McClurg Road. in Boardman.  Scott Larch, Shift Supervisor, gave the tour of the 119,000 square foot Manufacturing, Warehousing & Distribution Facility.  Career Counselors learned the manufacturing process, starting with fresh ingredients, cooking, bottling, packaging and delivery for Giant Eagle products,  Food Network Star Guy Fieri and other private labels.
