(mcsERC)

 

 

The Mahoning County Educational Service Center collaborates with the Simon Youth Foundation, and all public high schools in MahoningCounty. MCESC provides alternative education opportunities, maximizing the use of research based approaches for at risk youth. The EducationalResourceCenter (located at the Southern Park Mall) provides a learning environment for students who have difficulty within the framework of a traditional educational setting or who are in danger of not graduating with their class due to loss of credits or other life circumstances. Students must be referred by their respective high schools for admission and upon completion receive diplomas from their home school districts. For district referral form, click here.

mcsERC  also offers a summer program for a fee to any student who need to make up course work.  Courses must be approved in advance by the student’s high school for credit(s) to transfer.  For Summer school course list, click here.

 

Three main areas of development are emphasized:

 

·        Computer-based courses focusing on the tenets of self-directed learning enhanced and expanded through integrated projects

 

·        Personal goal development facilitating self-knowledge and future focus

 

·        Work programs to develop marketable skills transferable to higher education or workforce

 

·        Financial literacy
