Community based services for families:
This is a voluntary service to the families of Mahoning County Schools. The goal is to effectively improve the quality of life to families served by teaching new skills that foster positive choices for the lives of their children.
Our schools can only succeed with the support of the families in our community.
Who can be referred?
School personnel, Student Assistance/Intervention Teams, family members, or outside social service agencies can refer a Mahoning County school student in kindergarten through sixth grade for any of the following reasons?
- Poor Attendance
- Emotional concerns or inappropriate behavior
- Academic failure not due to a disability
- Lack of peer or social support
- Family concerns: signs of depression, poor eating habits, weight change, etc.
Goals:
- Improve attendance
- Improve grades
- Decrease emotional or inappropriate behaviors
Professional Services
Mental health services provided by and contracted through D & E Counseling Center include the following:
- Individual & family counseling
- Community Support Services
- Psychiatric services
- Crisis intervention services
- Additional outside referrals as required

Early Intervention
An Early Intervention Officer provided by the Juvenile Justice Center will be available to those students/families referred by school personnel. Effective resources include:
- Positive role modeling
- Monitoring studdent attendance success
- Child advocacy
- Home visits as required
- Detention facility tour
- Juvenile court Liason
- Additional outside referrals as required
